Wedding Gif

Always wanted to do one of these. OK. I did it, hopefully I won’t every do that again.  Unless I can come up with something really creative.  I really hate doing cliches, trends, and fads just to do them.  If there is a trend I want to really understand the logic behind its origination and its essence and try to really build upon that, instead of just doing something trendy just to do it.

The end is coming…for construction documents that is.

To my delight  I received the follow in my email. I have been saying for a while we are in the end days for construction documents as we know it. I for one can not wait to see them go.

See-Through, Touch-Screen Tablet Renders Interiors in 3D

It has taken from hundreds to thousands of years for architects and designers to perfect the art of translating from two-dimensional images to the three-dimensional world and back again. Augmented-reality technologies like this, however, promise new quantum leaps in matters of months.

A see-through touch screen will allow users of the (still pre-production) IRIS Tablet to overlay physical spaces with digital renderings ranging from plans and sections to highlighted perspectives, all paired for easy identification of locations and angles in multiple dimensions.

A combination of geo-positioning and pattern recognition help the device recognize its own stance within a structure, projecting too-be-added components onto the screen for an up-close-and-personal look at proposed renovations and additions.

Scanning (via a side-to-side movable slider) and editing images (right on the clear touch screen) and text up close are possibilities, too, as are various way-finding techniques that go a step beyond realtime 2D maps already widely available.

The see-through surface is more than a transparent window, it is a basis for modeling, exploring and interacting with intangible ideas and unrealized futures.

DIY Geodesic Disco-Ball Lamp from Upcycled Drink Boxes

Posted: 15 Sep 2011 03:00 PM PDT

Favorite beverages are a guilty pleasure some of us indulge in despite the ecological impact. This suspended light fixture may be the solution for all that repetitive waste, taking scrap modules and turns them slowly into something new and quite crafty.

Tetra Pak drink boxes form the basis for this origamic, disco-ball-shaped homage by Ed Chew to Buckminster Fuller and his work on geodesic domes and other super-stable geometric structures.

With rhythmic simplicity, a series of used boxes can be folded and converted into pentagonal and hexagonal pieces that slot together forming permeable spheres (or cylinders or other shapes).

The resulting configurations work toward dispersing light from a central hanging, standing or wall-mounted source, while providing mutual stability without the need for adhesives or fasteners. Eat your heart out, Epcot Center.

A Young Man & His Hair

Jr_afro
These images are of a young man about to loss his hair.  He had worked so hard to grow out his hair.  He went through some rough stages, but now it was finally looking right.  When it was braided he had some hang-time and when it was in Fro stage he could get his Maxwell or Lenny Kravitz on.  I think he thought it gave him strength.  So why cut it, because sometime you have to do things you don’t want to do. He was just starting high school and was required by his mother to join an activities that would keep him active but also require discipline.  He had a few options, and he selected JROTC.  With that the hair had to go.  So to memorialize his hair we took pictures. His family keeps telling him it will grow back, but I am not to sure he believe it yet.

whys:ideas

My official name online is whys.  If you know me offline you can call me whys or by my birth name, it makes me no never mind. I got the name whys during my time at Kansas State University.  I needed a DJ name for my hip-hop radio show on KSDB 91.9 the Wildcat called streetwys, I didn’t want it to be spelled “wise” because I didn’t want it to imply I was “wise”, so I came up with whys, because it sounded like I was saying “wise” but I was really saying the plural of asking the question why. I thought it was appropriate because I loved asking questions. I loved engaging people to think and question. Anyone that really knows me, knows I am always questioning, always asking what if, thinking the impossible.  Why is the ultimate question. So whys has nothing to do with my intelligence, but it is quite the opposite, it has to do with my ignorance.  I realize there is a lot I don’t know or understand, so I seek knowledge through questioning.

I began using this thirst for knowledge to search God’s Word. As I grew and developed, this questioning strengthened my understanding of my total dependence on God for knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. The more I searched his Word the more dependent on him I became.  God is the answerer of all my questions (whys). So whys:ideas are God’s answers (ideas) flowing through me.

Ideas general come as such.  I notice something could work better, I notice something is missing something, I wish there was something that did or was, I don’t understand something, I am perplexed by something, and so I began asking questions, researching, investigating, and observing. Most of my ideas come during or around the time I am praying and fellowshiping with God. I have learned that one of the ways that God blesses me is through ideas. When God opens up the the flood gates of ideas they are so much that I can not hold them.  My wife will tell you, when I am working on something I generally have so many ideas it is ridiculous.  I never have the issue of not have enough good ideas, it is always which one to go with.  So after I have moved and worked with the ideas the Lord has given me, I again, make my way before the Lord to pray and ask for wisdom.  Finally I move in Faith, that God is sovereign, faithful, holy, righteous, merciful, gracious, and good.  Regardless of the ideas I move forward with it is God who is out before me, ordering my steps.

So whys, was developed from my love of asking questions, to a way of embracing my ignoramce, to an acknowledgement of God’s infinite wisdom, mercy, and grace.  So for me to do something whys, is to first acknowledge your own ignorance, to humble yourself to search for the answer and not assume you know.  Secondly, it means to ask questions and to keep questioning, let the ideas come from the questions.  Thirdly, it means to seek wise counsel, and there is not greater wise counsel than that of the creator, the Alpha and the Omega, “I AM that I AM”. Fourthly, to do something whys means to walk by Faith according to the faithfulness, sovereignty, mercy, and grace of “I AM”.

1 Cor. 3:18 ”Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise.”(NASB)

James 1:5 ”But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (NASB)

Its not segregation its…

I went to Kansas State University, on of the best colleges in the USA.  EMAW.  Once a WILDCAT always a WILDCAT.  I loved and love K-State, the students, the people, the staff, the faculty, the programs, etc.  Kansas State University’s student population is mostly white, but there is diversity.  While at K-State I noticed a phenomenon and many of the non-black students did as well.  It was said that the black students at K-State segregated themselves and didn’t assimilate.  Many black students set in the same location in the student union, they partied together, they formed organizations together, and in general they had a sense of community, their own community.  Many non-black students that talked with me would ask why do they segregate themselves.  I would say they are not segregating themselves, but would have no further answer than that.  Then my wife enrolled in Texas Southern University a Historically Black College.  On the campus of TSU I noticed something new.  As non-black students left classes they were always together.  When I seen non-black students walking across campus they were walking together.  This made me wonder are theses non-black students segregating themselves from the black students, why are they not assimilating?  The answer became clear in neither case at K-State or TSU were the students segregating themselves, they were actually looking for themselves.  These minority students, black at K-State and non-black at TSU were looking for familiarity, comfort, validation, worth, and understanding. Not that they could not find most of these things by assimilating but it is easier to look for it and find it in skin color.
