A lesson in cleaning
When it comes to cleaning I am a little obsessive compulsive, you can blame my mother for that. She would have us clean, then she would come and inspect it, and would always find something we didn’t do adequately and she would make us do the whole cleaning process over again. Then she would say that if you clean it right the first time you won’t have to do it again. I thank her and bless her for her guidance, discipline, humility, and most of all love. I used to hate cleaning, but I enjoy it now, and over the years I have learned a few lessons, but a while ago I took stock in how I clean. I noticed that I always clean top to bottom. The holy spirit revealed to me in that moment that is an eternal principle applicable to all areas of our life.
Think about cleaning your physical body, proper cleaning starts from the head down, you don’t start at your feet, or at least you shouldn’t. Spiritual cleaning comes from a renewing of the mind. The same principle applies to the family. If you want a clean family, the head, must be cleansed. The principle works the same in business, sports, education, etc. Try it. If you want to see change, start from the top down, not from the bottom up, or somewhere in the middle. If you want to live righteously, start with cleaning your mind. Be mindful of what you think, what you watch, what you listen to, and what you say, bring these things in line with the will of “I AM” as revealed in the Bible. If you cleanse this part of your life, that which starts at the head, you will be amazed at what changes you will see in your life.
Note: This principle works for everyone, but is only truly profitable, for Christians. Only what you do for “I AM” will last. So trying to cleanse, or change outside of saving grace is futile, fleeting, and hopeless, but in Christ there is hope, joy, peace, grace, mercy, power, and love. As Christians we understand we can not cleanse ourselves, we can not win salvation, we can not change our eternal selves, we can not change our position, our salvation is a free gift, our position in heavenly places is bestowed upon us after receiving Jesus Christ as our substitutionary sacrifice. As Christians our struggle for cleansing/change is toward moving our practice up to the level of our position. If you have not been saved by grace through faith, I pray for your salvation, but if you are in the fellowship of faith and I pray for you growth, your walk, and your love.
